     Riverton is located in Fremont County on the Wind River Indian Reservation, in Central Wyoming. Founded August 16, 1906, the economy is based in mining, oil and gas exploration, agriculture and tourism. Surrounded by mountains and rivers the clear air elevation is 4,956 feet above sea level. With an average annual temperature of 44.4 degrees, less than 30% humidity, and 347 days of sunshine. With just over 10,000 folks living in the city and over 36,000 in the county. The Riverton Ranger is local, family-owned, daily paper. Riverton offers a small town atmosphere with the commercial support of a larger community.

      Riverton has a mayor-council form of government. The Mayor is elected at-large for a four-year term. City Council consists of six members elected for four-year overlapping terms from three separate election wards. Riverton has twenty-eight churches representing a variety of faiths and denominations. There are also two libraries in the community, the Riverton Branch Library and the Central Wyoming College Library. Both are available to the local residents.
